Taking the plunge!

Well for almost a year now I have been trying to get myself back into shape and alter my diet to a healthier format. I have done very well at times and extremely bad at times. I fell off the horse during last semester with the exercise and diet. For the most part I have been able to return my diet back to where it needs to be with the occasional hiccup but have not done so well on the exercise. During my epiphany last year I decided I wanted to complete a 5K and work my way up to longer distances. This goal seemed really far away and I never let myself get close before canceling the idea. This is no longer an option because I have decided to take the plunge!
About a week and a half ago my brother asked me if I would want to join him and his wife as they participated in the Great American Mud Run. I then looked into this crazy obstacle course and showed Matthew. After some discussion we decided to just dive right in and do it! Now I want you to know that none of us are currently consistently physically active or runners, but the point is we are going to be. The shocking part for me is that Matthew agreed to do it with me! I know he can but didn't think he would willingly. :)
The training we are all using is the regimen from the couch to 5K app. We live an hour and a half from each other so we will not be able to train together but we can keep tabs on each other that is for sure. We were however able to run together this past sunday while Matthew and I were there to visit, which was great! The first couple days have hurt but it will be worth it in the end. I am leaving the country for a week so that will put a slight hold on my training but I believe I will be active enough to keep up pace.
I am also looking into The Color Run in the fall with some class mates from nursing school. Going to be a fun-filled, run-filled year! I am super excited that I am finally getting out there, and family is getting involved as well! Maybe this can be a new past time? If you are at all interested look into some in your area, never know what you may find. And remember it doesn't matter how fast you are because you are still lapping everyone on the couch! :)

xoxo
